foodinmouth has written a long ol’ post about the death penalty being ruled unconstitutional in the case of child rape in the US…

I firmly and completely disagree with the death penalty 100%. In absolutely every single case, without fail. I don’t care what the person did; the state should not have the power to end their life…

You should probably click on gooneruk to read the whole thing; it’s worth it.

My callous two cents is more financiallybased than morally.  We already have overcrowded prisons, and every year hundreds of thousands prisoners need to be fed, guarded and otherwise taken care of with our tax money.  If they have to pay for a crime, why does society have to as well?

In terms of morality, we seem to care a lot more about human life than any other country.  We hate killing prisoners but we willingly give subsidies to ranches and farmers who systematically mistreat livestock?  We “put down” millions of cats and dugs every year just because they’re unwanted?  Yet, we have a problem with humans who’ve raped, killed and otherwise damaged society… hm… okay…

I’m not saying everytime you do something wrong, boom! You’re dead.  I just don’t think we should be so lenient on people.  That’s why they used to hang people in the town squares… so other lil f$*%ers who want to try something won’t.
